Contrary to claims by the many “gurus” on the net, there is no free lunch. In order to be successful in your online business, you must position yourself so that those who are already looking for what you have to offer, find you and then trust you enough to buy from you. They will not trust you when the first thing you do is try to sell them. Like most things in life, it is simple but not always necessarily easy. It requires some effort.

In the past, we have wasted many hours subscribing to free email online marketing courses, submitting articles to free online directories, and trying out every so-called marketing secret we could find. Then we graduated to spending thousands of dollars on search engine optimization, pay per click advertising, e-books and courses. All in all, we expended a huge amount of time, energy and money for very little payback.

What we have found to be the most effective is establishing yourself as an expert in your chosen field by providing quality content in your own unique voice. Then partnering with list owners whose business complements yours through joint ventures and affiliate marketing.

Don’t waste your time with building a fancy website or chasing the latest online marketing craze. Fancy graphics and flash do not generate traffic and gimmicks do not make sales. Instead, focus on creating content containing valuable information that people are looking for. By doing so, you will attract a loyal following that will trust your recommendations.
