TrendTrimmer

June 2009

We have been testing TrendTrimmer for quite a few months now, and we’ve traded it through the huge financial meltdown. We are quite pleased with the results that we have been experiencing so far. TrendTrimmer has both a long-term and a short-term scalping EA to trade in both market conditions (sideways and trending).

When we started testing the long-term “Classic” strategy in September 2008, it was only offered as a Forex trading signal, which meant that you had to manually enter the trades daily at 5:00 pm EST. At the end of December 2008, the “Classic” strategy also became available as an EA that would place the trades for you automatically. In addition, they also released the new short-term “Autoskimmer” EA.

These EA’s are only available for use with two different brokers: FXDD and IBFX. We have been using FXDD as we are unable to open a live account with IBFX due to the geographical area that we live in.

Because we had to place the trades manually in the beginning, and then with moving around as we prepared to head down to Brazil, we have not tested the “Classic” strategy consistently since we first began using it. The results we have had are up and down. Some months are in a profit and others are in a loss. It appears to us that if traded consistently, this strategy is a viable one and would be profitable over time.

We have been trading both the Classic and Autoskimmer strategies on a live account for the last three months. We have been very happy with the Autoskimmer strategy as it has shown consistent small profits with numerous small trades daily. There are often a number of open trades until they reach their take profit points. Consequently, you can have a number of open trades sitting in a negative position for awhile before they close for a profit. However, it doesn’t take long for the consistent small profits to grow larger than any negative balance from the trades that haven’t closed yet.

The market doesn’t move in a straight line, so it’s only a matter of time before the trade closes out for a profit. However, the risk does exist that the market could make a huge move and not come back to the original price point that the trade was opened at for many years. The likelihood is very small but it is possible. However, the small number of lots traded further reduces the risk.

Over the last three months, the closed trades are in a profit overall, but when considering the few trades that haven’t closed yet, it is in a small loss. However, this is a long term strategy and in our opinion, one needs to trade it live for at least a year before looking at the returns.
